Trekking in the highest Mountains of the World
Thinking back, I never felt strongly about trekking or hiking and when I spontaneously decided in March of 2011 to do the Annapurna Circuit with a new-found friend whom I met at the Kathmandu airport, I clearly had not the slightest idea what I was getting myself into. I had never walked for an extended period of time before, I had no proper equipment, not even good hiking boots and I had absolutely no idea what it meant to be walking for many hours in 5000 meters altitude or in deep snow while carrying a heavy backpack…
That one morning when we started walking before sunrise, in complete darkness, freezing and breathlessly trying to find the slippery path up to the High Camp, to the shine of a flashlight and in the freshly fallen snow, that morning I swore to myself that if I would make it out of there alive, I would never ever do something equally as crazy as this again in my entire life…
Of course, after the three weeks of trekking and a solid two-week recovery period in the many restaurants of Pokhara’s Lakeside, things started to look a little bit different again. Once I left Nepal then, what was left from this crazy trek were only some beautiful photos of the amazing scenery and villages, as well as the memories of a once in a lifetime trip. Obviously it didn’t take too long until the idea arose again to set out on another great trek in the Himalayas…
The only difference this time around was that I knew a whole lot better what to expect and how best to prepare for what was coming. So in order to save you some of the trouble that I was having in the beginning, I am currently putting together all my trekking information for each individual trek, along with a day by day photo folder and a detailed diary report. Hopefully this information will prove useful for your trekking preparation. Enjoy your trek in the Himalayas… : )
