Travel Day 809 – Granada to Seville, SPAIN
Although Granada was absolutely a great place to stay for a while, unfortunately we were a little short on time and so the best idea seemed to be continuing towards Seville by bus…
On a first glance Seville seemed to be a much bigger place than Granada with more of an actual city feel to it, which was in combination with the nice weather just simply perfect to walk around and explore. Even if we did explore a little bit of the city first, our main mission became pretty quickly to find a vacant seat in one of the many outdoor restaurants of the crowded Place del Salvador and enjoy some nice Tapas for lunch in the warmth of the mid-day sun…
Only after our second Tapas sampler plate, coffee and desert we felt finally ready for some continued walking and city exploration. After a while we committed quite some time to visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the royal residence Alcazar. It was initially built as a Moorish fortress and today it was the oldest royal palace in Europe that was still in use. The upper floors were still occupied by the royal family but luckily the extensive gardens were accessible. Even if the location wasn’t as stunning as the one of Granada’s Alhambra, the palace itself with its Moorish architecture was in many ways quite similar to it…
Next we went to see the impressive Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, which must have been one of the biggest religious buildings I had ever seen in my life. In fact it turned out to be the third largest church and the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. This Roman Catholic building did not only claim to be the burial-place of Christopher Columbus, but it was also built-in place of a former mosque and as well enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The only remaining part of the mosque was a minaret tower, named La Giralda. Today, this tower was still in use as the main bell tower of the cathedral and luckily it was possible to climb it, which we couldn’t resist to enjoy some fine views over the city…
When the day then slowly came to an end, the streets continued to fill up more and more, to a point where it seemed that every single person in Spain must have been out and about in Seville. We were literally fighting our way through the masses of people until we reached a site where an outdoor light and sound show took place. After the show we continued to float with the masses through the streets for a while until we retired into another great Tapas bar…
Luckily the tapas place turned out to be a completely local place, serving the most delicious Tapas we have tasted in Spain. The only slight problem was that we couldn’t read the menu and simply ordered random things by pointing at names and waiting to see what we got. But it was all extremely tasty and so ended once more a really great day in Spain…

Very beautiful city!
So many times I wanted to visit it, definitely more than 3 times – but every time I couldn’t find any adequate flight connection.
