Travel Day 1105 – Koh Phangan, THAILAND
Even if I went to bed quite late yesterday, today I couldn’t help but wake up early, and even if it wasn’t 4am, but by 6.30am I was already running around…
The evening rain shower yesterday had probably been rather a storm than anything else, because in the morning everything outside was still wet and looked a little bit roughed up. Once I reached the deserted beach, the water seemed to be at its lowest point, exposing all sorts of things had been swept ashore over night. So even the otherwise nice looking sandy beach had all of a sudden a little bit of a dirty appearance…
Not minding this too much, my morning stroll took me then south along the beach, past a lot of low development resort type properties until I finally reached an elevated bar on a cliff. Past that another beach started with less touristic development and rather some local looking houses. Eventually I reached the point where I needed to turn inland to reach the local village with a 7-eleven to buy some goodies for breakfast…
Actually after I passed by a lake and a lot of very simple local wooden huts, I became quite hopeful that it would be possible to buy some local breakfast in the village. But unfortunately most of the local places appeared to be either still closed or only catering to meat eaters and a rice-soup, as also offered to me by a local woman, was really the last thing I wanted to eat for breakfast. And so some fruits from the street and too many colorful items I couldn’t resist buying later, found me again in the hammock of my little wooden hut, munching away every little thing that I had bought…
The hammock on the other hand became then my favorite place of the day and I made the resolution to only leave it if absolutely necessary. Actually by the afternoon when the sun was out, it actually did feel necessary to leave the hammock behind for a couple of hours and go for a stroll north along the beach. But because of the many cliffs reaching into the sea, I couldn’t get really far and so I was “forced” to rather continue my lazy Daycation while lying in the sand of our deserted beach…
The only real activity I managed to do for the rest of the afternoon was going for a swim in the pretty clear and surprisingly warm water. This was really something I had missed while being in Nepal for a couple of months and so I not only embraced the possibility to swim in blue water, but I also really enjoyed my lazy day of sunny beach Daycation, even if there was a cloudy sunset…
