Travel Day 859 – Makati, Manila, PHILIPPINES
It was about time to see a little bit more of Manila and after being inside the whole day yesterday, today was a day of outdoor market places…
Luckily I had called it a somewhat early night yesterday after we started already at 4pm in the afternoon with some recreational drinking. By about 10 pm the first people started passing out and by midnight I had found my way back home, which was probably a lucky circumstance and actually allowed me to be somewhat awake and alive today…
So I finally made it to the Lagaspi Market in Makati to try one of my local friend’s famous organic green Rawlicious smoothies. This was one thing I never managed to do when I was here 2 ½ years ago and I was really happy that I finally made it to this lovely market. As it turned out, it was a nice marked for all sorts of things and I ended up spending most of my afternoon there with green smoothies, some drumming, chatting with people, a nice lunch and watching the Manny Pacquiau fight on an open television…
Once Manny decided to walk right into a punch, the busy market seemed to quickly dissolve in quiet emptiness and I rather hit the LRT again to visit another local place that I personally quite cared for. It was the area around the Chinese Cemetery with a really local neighborhood, street markets, lots of well aged rustic houses and a ridiculous amount of Jeepneys on the streets. This was the area that I stayed at last time when I visited Manila and I just had to go back there to have a look…
Coming from Makati this time around, the area looked almost a bit dodgy, but knowing my way around and having experienced how friendly and unspoiled the people were in the area, I was just extremely happy that I made it back there. I must have spent a good two hours just walking around, taking photos, talking to people, actually mainly kids, and then making my way back to the LRT when it got dark…
It was simply amazing to see this local area again and to connect the dots to my last visit, but I was also extremely happy that I managed to finally visit my friend for her locally grown Rawlicious smoothies. What a great day… : )
