Travel Day 667 – Mushroom Bay, Nusa Lembongan, INDONESIA
Since we never managed to find a good beach yesterday in the north-east of Nusa Lembongan, today we obviously set off in the opposite direction…
But first it was time for some breakfast at the little local warung which we had found yesterday evening. Not only was it extremely cheap, but the lady running it was cooking the most delicious home cooked meals right in front of us. She had promised some of her famous coconut rice pudding for breakfast, but unfortunately her food was so good that she had already sold out before 8am. But at least she had saved a small portion to taste and it was so delicious that we made her promise to save more of her breakfast treats for the next morning…
Afterwards we walked our way south and then west along the beach towards an expensive looking villa area. The beach in Jungut Batu was not quite the best since it was rather a town beach with lots of docking motorboats and even ferries coming and going. But after passing this main beach section and the upscale residential area on the following cliff, another small local beach was coming right after…
Unfortunately this small beach was also occupied and busy with fishing boats and so we rather carried on, along another stretch of cliffs towards the next bigger beach called Pantai Selegimpak. This stretch of white sand was nice enough to linger for a while, but since it wasn’t really good for swimming, we kept walking over the next pile of protruding cliffs, until we finally arrived at Mushroom Bay. Even if this beach was technically famous for day trippers from Bali and banana rides on the water, luckily it came in two sections and the smaller one was nice and empty…
So finally after a long while of walking we managed to find a relaxed and quiet beach with blue sea and white sand. Swimming was still not really possible in the small part of Mushroom Bay due to the many off shore corals, but at least this was the perfect spot for hanging out, reading a book and enjoying the sun. And since Mushroom Bay also turned out to be a great spot to watch the sun set over the sea, we obviously didn’t make it back to Jungut Batu until after dark. But at least we had seen a lot of Nusa Lembongan today and it had been another nice day in this quiet getaway…

Staying on Nusa Lembongan was the highlight of my month long trip to Indonesia! We were conflicted about staying in Mushroom Bay or the main beach. We ended up at the Ketut Losmen Bungalows so we were close to the dive shop we used, but made a few trips out to Mushroom Bay for sunset dinners.

Hi Hailey, great to hear that you liked Nusa Lembongan so much and even better that you made it Mushroom Bay for the sunsets. It really was such a nice and quiet island to visit, close but still far away for all the business on Bali. And you even went diving, no wonder that Nusa Lembongan became your highlight of Indonesia…
