Travel Day 673 – Kuta and Sade on Lombok, INDONESIA
Despite the fact that lovely Kuta came with a nice beach right by our guest house, we still decided to do something else before hitting the sand…
There were a few local Sasak Villages that we had passed by yesterday on the drive to Kuta and everyone we had spoken to so far highly recommended visiting at least one of them. So after a nice breakfast on the terrace we made Sade, the closest village to Kuta, our cultural destination of the day. And reaching the Sasak Village of Sade only took driving back on the main road until we saw a cluster of fluffy wood and straw houses…
Funny enough, but Sade seemed to be visited quite frequently by tourists and everything was staged in a way that it looked a little bit like a living museum. Donations were requested at the entrance, it was possible to buy handicrafts everywhere and even some self-acclaimed guides offered their services to tour the tiny straw village. But we much rather preferred to walk on our own while randomly meeting local families and taking some photos of the skillfully build straw huts…
Even if the countless people weaving and trying to sell fabric were a little bit distracting from the authentic experience we had hoped to get, Sade still was a really great place to visit to get at least a glimpse of the traditional Sasak life. But after so much culture, it was obviously about time to scoot back to Kuta and enjoy the rest of the day at the local beach. Luckily not only the warm sand was perfect for a little rest, but also the clear shallow water was finally a place to enjoy the sea without constantly having to step on sharp rocks…
Eventually the water started to retrieve, the sun started to set and we ended yet another great day in Indonesia. Not even the persistent sales people on the beach here in Kuta were able spoil the experience and so we concluded our relaxing beach day first with some local dinner in a warung and then with some live music in an open air bar…RJD3YMPWAQ4N
