Travel Day 799 – Arambol and Mandrem, INDIA
Finally the last day of my trip had come, but instead of just simply enjoying this day, I had a whole lot of things to and ended up running round all day long…
As a first thing of the day, I started to test pack and arrange my two backpacks, which in the end took up my entire morning. This was mainly because it took me two scooter rides to the post office to figure out the weight of all my bags. As I was writing all the different weights down, it became quite obvious what I had to do: I had my big backpack with the Dayan inside and filled to the 20kg limit. I had my carry-on bag filled up to the allowable 6kg, I had a parcel of 2kg to post home and lot of stuff to leave behind, but I also still had my Bayan…
The Bayan, which was the bigger one of the two drums, did not fit in any of my bags and I had no choice but carry it on to the airplane separately. Unfortunately it added another 4.5kg to my luggage, but it was my instrument and I thought that there must be a way to carry an instrument on an airplane. At least I could see no other solution and I was getting mentally prepared for any sort of argument at the airport… : )
Anyway, once I was done with the packing part, I went back to the beach for a couple of hours. This was not only my time to relax and getting new energy, it was also the time to say good-bye to the beach and India as a whole. I guess nowhere else in the word had I ever shared the beach before with stray cows and pigs… : )
Once I was ready to leave the beach behind, I drove back to Mandrem to find an ATM and get some cash for paying all my bills. On the way I stopped by my friend’s house again and said good-bye to everyone over there. I really only had time for a tea and cookies, before I then had to scoot around and do some other last-minute errands…
Posting the parcel, buying some tea to take home, returning the scooter, paying the bills for the hut and the scooter, getting a haircut and printing my flight itinerary meant that I was finally done with everything. Since there was not even time left for a nice dinner, I only got a sandwich and retired to my hut. So much for my last day; all I could do was have a little nap and then get up again at 1.30 am to head to the airport. While this was quite a busy day, at least I got everything done and was I finally ready to leave… : )
