Travel Day 973 – Varkala to Sivananda, Kerala, INDIA
It was almost hard to believe, but more than two weeks had already passed by since I had arrived in Varkala and now I had finally found a reason to actually leave and say bye-bye to Varkala Beach…
Over the last couple of days I had met more and more people in Varkala and we usually met in one of the guesthouses in the evening, chatted and played music together. Now someone had come up with the idea to visit the Sivananda yoga ashram, outside of Trivandrum and a group of five people decided to go, me being one of them…
Normally it would have meant for us to take a rickshaw to the train station, a train to Trivandrum, a bus into the mountains and another rickshaw to reach the Sivananda ashram. But since we were a small group of people, we reckoned that it would actually be worth it for us to get one big taxi and to have us dropped off directly at the entrance of the ashram…
This was obviously a great idea, but since we were so many people, we also had a lot of opinions as to when to leave, how much to pay for the taxi and if we actually needed an A/C taxi, or if opening the windows was sufficient. In the end we could never really agree on the same thing and it took forever to even ensure that everyone was fully packed up and ready to go…
For me personally it meant that I wasted most of my day while running around, packing and trying to talk to everyone to come to an agreement and to make sure that we all left together at the same time. The initial departure was planned for 3pm, but when one delay came to the next, we finally left some time after 7pm. Some further delays along the way because of random stops ensured that we arrived no earlier than 10pm at the Sivananda ashram…
We were barely able to check in at this hour and we were just pointed to a bed in one of the huge, open sleeping rooms. By the time I was brushing my teeth, the light went off and I had to touch my way back to my bed in the pitch black dorm while thinking that next time I would rather travel early again and alone, but I was where I was and I felt ready for a new experience in this so-called yoga ashram…
