Travel Day 845 – Waikiki, Honolulu, Oahu, HAWAII
Dear Mr. Obama,
Thank you very much for having me on your island. It really is the perfect place for a little Travel Daycation, for relaxation and for recharging the batteries…
It is not hard to see why you choose this island as your birth place and as your home for many years. Even if there is a lot of over-development around, especially in the area of Waikiki with hundreds of chain stores, useless touristic shopping opportunities and a lot of architectural sins. But at least the sea is still blue, the sand is still soft and the sun is still nicely warm. On a Travel Daycation like today, that was really all I could have wish for…
Unfortunately, after almost four weeks in Canada, I really couldn’t do anything else today but lie on the beach, rest up and enjoy the nice weather. But since I will be here for about one week, I promise that I will make an effort to see more of your beautiful island over the next couple of days. I probably won’t have the time or the resources to see any of the other islands, but I am sure you will still be delighted to learn that I at least managed to stop by your home, Oahu, on my busy travel schedule…
When I left my job in the US a few weeks ago, I was so happy that I could go to Canada and I really loved it there. But after a couple of weeks of freezing cold in Toronto and rainy grey weather in Vancouver, I like to officially take everything back that I might have said about the US. I have to tell you that I really like your country so much better than this Canada… well, at least today I do…
Even all the homeless people around here seem much happier than the ones I have seen in Canada. No wonder, if I had to choose to be homeless in either freezing town, rainy town or sunny beach town, be assured that I too would have picked your sunny beach town as well…
But, Mr. Obama, I have to be honest with you. Even if this is just my Arrival Day, the one thing we seriously have to talk about so far, is your little problem with the airport bus that doesn’t transport any luggage to, or even from the airport. I would have a few improvement suggestions in that regard and I will be more than happy to share them with you when I see you around. Since Hawaii is not that big of a place, I am sure I will run into you at some point anyway…
Until then, best wishes, mahalo nui loa and aloha,
Dennis
