Travel Day 852 – Waikiki, Oahu, HAWAII
After having only an afternoon at the beach yesterday, I was hoping to have one more day of Travel Daycation today, but unfortunately the weather did not cooperate…
At first it was only cloudy, but then it even started to rain and I had to seek shelter during my breakfast in the open courtyard. I should have known that two nice days in a row were impossible at time of year, as so far a sunny day and a cloudy day seemed to alternate here in Hawaii. But instead of being too upset about it, I decided to make the best out of this unlucky day while not using it as a Travel Daycation but as a Travel Sunday…
So at first I did some work online and when the weather was nicer again, I sat outside and practiced some Tabla. The next thing on the list was creative packing and running errands. I was still facing the problem of having a backpack that was way too heavy, but with my drums in it, there was not really a way to get down to a comfortable weight. Maybe after my stay in India I would have to get rid of some of the drumming equipment that was not absolutely necessary any more. Also the fact that all of a sudden I had to fit some of the winter clothes into my backpack that I was still wearing when I was leaving Vancouver didn’t really help my packing efforts…
Once all my busy organization efforts were done, at least I managed to go down to the beach to enjoy my last sunset in Hawaii. It was almost funny, because I did the exact same things as I did on my very first day after arrival. I was watching the sun go down over the ocean, enjoyed some of the free hula show at the beach, mingled on the busy sidewalks and then got some take-out dinner to eat in the sand of the beach while listening to the waves come in…
Yes, even if Hawaii and especially Waikiki was very commercialized, full of tourists and way too expensive for my backpacker budget, I still very much enjoyed my time here. Especially the scooter drive around the island was a really fun thing to do, seeing Pearl Harbor was great and the sun at the beach did the rest to make this a perfect stopover on my way back to India. Until next time, Aloha Hawaii…
