Travel Day 842 – Vancouver, CANADA
It was a complete joke, but today was everything but a better day. While the first two days in Vancouver had at least some breaks in the rain with even a few minutes of sunshine in the afternoon, today was just a day of constant rain…
After trying to wait out the rain until the afternoon, I finally gave up and joined all the people who were fighting their way through the elements in their raincoats. I had to make it to a supermarket where I got mischarged the first day when I arrived. After that I was heading to the big shopping mall to find a replacement part for my backpack. But by the time I arrived at the mall, I was not only done with this miserable grey drizzle weather, I also found out where everyone was spending their days in Vancouver…
While the shopping mall was not even an exciting place to begin with, but entire Vancouver seemed to meet here and hang out. There were obviously coffee shops everywhere and people were apparently just spending their days between the shops in the mall and the coffee places. So since the rain didn’t stop until the evening, I did what I had to do and looked around in the shopping mall. Then I retired into one of the many coffee shops to spend the rest of the afternoon there…
While a warm, dry place with free wifi was perfect for me to do some work, it seemed that everyone else was doing exactly the same. Not only was there a coffee shop on literally every single street corner in Vancouver, but they were all always packed with people working on their laptops. For many hours I would actually see the same people in the same coffee shops. It seemed that everyone had made peace with the weather and accepted the local Vancouver lifestyle between shopping mall and coffee shops…
