Travel Day 011 – Lima to Quito, ECUADOR
It was an Active Travel Day again and I was leaving Peru already behind and heading for Quito in Ecuador…
When I booked my Round the World Ticket, I chose Lima as the main hub to fly in and out of, because most connections went through Lima anyway. But in reality I wanted travel from Ecuador through Peru to Bolivia and then head to Brazil. With the Round the World Ticket I had no choice but buy extra flights in order to actually see all the places I wanted to see and then return back to Lima. So when I really wanted to start my South America trip in Ecuador, I first had to fly into Lima and then catch another flight to Quito from there…
Since I didn’t like the idea of arriving in Lima and leaving right away, I had decided to at least stay for two days in Barranco in-between. Now looking back to this decision, it seemed almost pointless, because I was barely able to settle in, get used to the currency and everything else in Peru. This was surely all part of my travel experience, but so far the fast pace travel in combination with the Round the World Ticket made me think that there was a lot of room for improvement in the future…
Anyway, after only being able to enjoy Barranco for only two days, I was already off to the airport after my extended breakfast. I took a taxi to the airport, had a flight over to Quito and then took another taxi to the hostel. By the time I arrived and settled in, almost the whole day had passed by already and all I was left to do was to enjoy the roof terrace of the hostel…
While Lima and Barranco had been at the sea level, all of a sudden I found myself in the Andean mountains with Quito itself situated in a small valley. My hostel was built on the slopes of one of the surrounding hills and when I first came to the roof terrace, I was completely amazed by the view of the Old Town with the mountainous backdrop. Even if I didn’t manage to explore much of the city today and rather opted for dinner and some holstel company on the roof terrace, I was already excited at the prospect of exploring the city in daylight tomorrow morning… : )
