Travel Day 665 – Kuta to Sanur on Bali, INDONESIA
Unfortunately the weather today was still not quite at its best and so the drizzling morning was the perfect time to rearrange the backpacks…
Eventually the rain ceased and it was about time to leave Kuta for good and catch a shuttle bus back to a place I that had passed by yesterday, Sanur. Geographically really close to Kuta, Sanur was a lot mellower and rather famous for its expat retiree population than for parties and Bintang. For me personally, Sanur was not a real destination, but rather a stopover, to meet a friend and eventually catch a ferry over to Nusa Lembongan…
Over some nice lunch at the beach, we final had the chance to catch up on what happened since we last saw each other in Tibet. He had been in China for a while and when arriving in Indonesia, he did so in Sumatra and travelled south, with the result of just arriving on Bali. Since I went straight to Bali and only spent time on the island, we could exchange some useful information about all the places that were worthwhile seeing…
Besides that, we just spent time walking around on the relaxed beach of Sanur. It really seemed that the entire waterfront was almost deserted. There were a lot of empty beach chairs put outside and beautifully painted fishing boats pulled ashore. Actually those traditional fishing boats here in Sanur were quite different from any other place on Bali and here they were not only painted quite colorfully, but they were also carved with, what looked like, a swordfish face. Wide mouthed, with protruding eyed and a pointy nose raised up to the sky, these traditional boats were lining the beach in all its colorful beauty…
Luckily we could use the afternoon not only to see those traditional fishing boats, but also to pay a visit to the local ferry terminal to get a ticket to Nusa Lembongan for tomorrow morning. It was about time to see another island in Indonesia, but the biggest question became if it would be possible to extend my visa when arriving on Lombok. Making a visa run to East Timor was out of the question and I either would get the extension to spend at least 6 weeks in Indonesia, or I would really have to speed things up and reach Jakarta before my current visa expired. Well, at this point I had no clue how things would work out, but I was probably about to find out very soon…
