Daycation Beach in Conado by San Juan, Puerto Rico
It was overall rather a matter of coincidences than anything else that I ended up in Puerto Rico for a couple of days. My Round the World Ticket wasn’t starting until next week from Miami and I still had enough flight points to get from Boston to San Juan for free. So a couple of days near the beach and in mainly Spanish-speaking environment seemed to be the perfect introduction before I would spend a couple of months in South America…
Puerto Rico was technically still part of the US, which meant that I didn’t even have to worry about a visa or changing money. The only thing that I was worrying about was my budget. Unfortunately Puerto Rico seemed to be not much cheaper than the US and there were no hostels that I could find online. So I decided to do the best that I could do and enjoy a couple of days in an actual hotel and treat myself, before my journey would fully begin. Blue Sea at Local Conado Beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Besides sleeping-in and having breakfast, I started digging through my backpack again. It was quite obvious that I would have to lose a few things and so I started making some pre-sections. After that I went on a little exploration walk around the area. I was staying in the Conado Beach area, away from the center of Old San Juan, but close enough to a small local beach, where I grabbed some lunch and spent the rest of the day in the sun…
It was truly amazing to experience what a day of rest at the beach could do to you and your well-being. Spending time in the sun, going for a little swimming and just relaxing felt like re-charging all my batteries which had been completely drained over the last couple of weeks. Even if I didn’t know it at this time, but having a day of rest and relaxation while travelling would eventually become an integral part of my entire world trip. So naturally this first full day away from home also became my fist day of Travel Daycation and in this case it was a daycation at the sunny beach in Condado in San Juan…
