Travel Day 1107 – Koh Tao, THAILAND
Wow, today was a very different day and today I actually had to admit that I really liked Koh Tao which all of a sudden appeared as the perfect place for a little beach Daycation…
My change of mind had probably a lot to do with the weather, but after sleeping-in, having same breakfast and a relaxing morning, everything looked a whole tot different from yesterday. And so I decided to call this day a beach Daycation and to do nothing else but spending my time either in, or right by the amazingly clear water. That wasn’t really an impossible wish to fulfill and when I walked towards the waterfront and the beach I became really excited about the prospect of going for a swim once I actually saw the crystal clear water and the white sand…
I only had to get one thing done before I could actually really enjoy myself, I had to find a decent way to get back to Bangkok tomorrow in order to catch my flight to Sri Lanka the day after. Unfortunately all the boat plus bus options appeared to be really expensive and they really only varied in the departure and arrival times. Still, the most expensive option was leaving at 10am and arriving in Bangkok at 8.30pm, while the cheapest option was leaving at 2.30pm and arriving in Bangkok at 5.30am in the morning…
There was also an in-between solution, but overall the idea of spending the night in a bus, having to pack in the Hostel lobby in Bangkok and then having to leave for Sri Lanka on the same day didn’t really appeal to me. Also the sun wasn’t even out in the morning and the few hours difference in the leaving time didn’t really gain me anything anyway. So even if I would have wished to stay for a couple more days, I had real choice but to sadly arrange my leaving for 10am in the morning…
But at least I had the day today to enjoy at the beach and that was exactly what I did. First I walked a little bit up and down in the sand, trying to find a spot with fewer people and not directly in front of a beach bar or right by all the dive school motor boots. These boats were constantly shuttling divers out to the bigger diving boats, but if one tried to enjoy some quiet time at the beach and in the water, then these boats quickly became quite a nuisance…
At last I found the best spot in the sand that suited my fancy and with that my Daycation could officially begin. Needless to say that I ended up not leaving my towel until the sun finally started to set behind the incoming clouds. Only the occasional break for a little swim in the perfectly clear and shallow water was a welcome distraction for the otherwise extremely relaxing nothingness…
