Travel Day 1090 – Bangkok, THAILAND
Over the past couple of days I had seen so many sights during the day that I actually started seeing them at night as well…
It was funny because Bangkok was so famous for its night-life and usually visitors seemed to spend a lot of their time in bars, restaurants and all sorts of interesting night clubs. But actually there was a lot to see outside as well and one could equally enjoy the night-life of Bangkok without spending all the hard-earned money while not even being able to remember if the last night had been really good, or sometimes not even wanting to…
For me personally it was perfect just to walk the streets in darkness when the temperatures were actually friendly to me and the buzz of the day was slowly fading out. It was quite a special atmosphere and the real night-life of Bangkok started to become alive and kicking when all the lights came on, illuminating all the mayor sights of the city…
When I first arrived in Bangkok I was already in disbelieve about how clean and nicely lit everything was when I was taking the taxi into town. After arriving from Nepal where power cuts were more frequent than the times of actually functioning electricity, all the lights of Bangkok were first a bit of a shock, but by now I came to appreciate them. While wandering the dark alleys of Kathmandu with a flashlight certainly had some charm, being able to see some sights at night was not such a bad thing either…
Most of the places that I was passing at night were actually sights that I had seen during the day already and a lot of them actually during my last few days in Bangkok. Most notably was the Grand Palace which I visited a few years back and due to its high entrance price rather enjoyed from the outside than anything else. But at least Wat Suthat and the Golden Mountain were places that I had visited quite recently during the day…
Overall enjoying the beautiful night life of Bangkok was something that I had been doing already over the last couple of days, but today I was making sure to take in all impressions extra consciously since it would be my last chance for a while. Tomorrow I would finally move on towards the south of Thailand and I was not sure if I would be able to have the chance to wander around again before I would leave for Sri Lanka. So bye-bye Bangkok city, bye-bye best Pad-Thai in the world and bye-bye beautiful temples and night-life…
