Travel Day 941 – Amritapuri Ashram, Kerala, INDIA
After finishing my meditation class and receiving my secret mantra yesterday, the world looked quite different again this morning…
Well, this was also due to the fact that my finger was slowly getting better and I could finally practice some Tabla again. So I started my day on the roof of my building and with some musical finger exercises. It felt great to be up early and sit on the roof while the sun was slowly rising. So far early morning or evening hours seemed to be the best time for practice because the temperatures outside were at least somewhat bearable…
Then I was off to my new Seva. Since my finger was still bandaged, I obviously couldn’t work in the compost department any more and I had asked for a new volunteering duty that would be either clean, or could be done with one hand only. The result was that the only applicable position appeared to be a food serving Seva in the Western cafeteria…
As it turned out, all I had to do was scoop Western food on the plates of people who rather paid for familiar sounding food like pasta or vegetable soup, instead of eating the watery rice in the big free canteen. I personally really liked this new Seva of serving food, because I got to meet a lot of people and most of then even gave me a nice smile back in anticipation of the delicious food…
In the afternoon I had then signed up for a Palmistry class, but unfortunately a lot of other people had the same idea and so we ended up with a group of at least 50 people in one room. Obviously we couldn’t get into much detail with so many people and the fact that Amma was expected at the beach also didn’t really help the effort because we rather rushed through the study material in order to be down at the beach early enough to get good seats…
Still the Palmistry class was a lot of fun, especially because we had to look at each others hands and come pare them to ours and try to assign certain properties to what we saw. Obviously not everything was absolutely accurate and there was a lot of room for interpretations, but overall it seemed quite interesting to get a little introduction tin the topic. But clearly further studies would have to be done in order to really do something with this knowledge…
The last highlight of the day was then Amma’s teaching at the beach. We first were doing a little meditation exercise and then listen to what Amma had to say. After her initial words of wisdom, once more questions could be asked and once more this time together at the beach seemed to be the best quality time one could have with Amma round here and I really enjoyed it… : )
