Travel Day 909 – Pondicherry to Tanjavur, INDIA
It was an Active Travel Day again and luckily we took the train further south instead of the bus, as I was not feeling too well today…
Actually after questioning everything that Auroville was supposed to stand for and not being quite sure about what to make out of it, we ended up chatting with a few people what stayed in Auroville for a while. It seemed that people were involved and many different project around the area and in the end I was debating if I too should devote some time and try to understand what lay beyond the dusty red dirt roads of Auroville…
When we spend time in Auroville yesterday, we decided to stay for a meal in the local restaurant and I apparently made the mistake of drinking their special Auroville water. Only I drank the water and only I was not feeling well this morning. Actually ever since we left Auroville yesterday, my stomach was feeling kind of funny and so today I had to deal with the aftermath of Auroville while being on a long train ride down to Tanjavur…
Unfortunately the somewhat unhappy train ride made me not feel excited any more about my idea of possibly devoting some time to the Auroville community and so I decided to burry that idea for the time being and to rather enjoy other things. On the one hand there was the countryside of Tamil Nadu flying by the window, on the other side there was the town of Tanjavur…
Unfortunately as it turned out, Tanjavur (Tanjore) was on a first glance nothing more than another loud dusty and hot crossroad town with very limited budget accommodation around the train station. And as we finally made piece with the dirtiest and noisiest room we ever had in India so far, we also piece with the fact that I still wasn’t feeling too well to do some sight-seeing…
So unfortunately we had to leave the sightseeing of the Old Town, the big Clock Tower, the Royal Palace and the Brihadishwara Temple for during the day tomorrow…
