Travel Day 866 to 868 – Kolkata, INDIA
It was funny, but all of a sudden I was not only having a daily routine of studying Tabla, but also an actual Travel Life…
What was funny about this circumstance was the fact that the longer I travelled, the more I actually enjoyed staying in certain paces for an extended period of time and setting camp for a while. In this case my camp was a nice clean hostel and my daily routine mainly involved music and my extremely demanding instrument, Tabla…
My daily routine consisted of some Tabla practice in the morning before breakfast and then an all morning class until about noon, in which we learned new things and practiced others that were not quite satisfactory yet. Once back in the hostel, I made sure to practice those things learned in the morning until lunch was ready. The afternoon was then spent on the open roof with some intense practice until sitting became too painful and then it was time for a little exploration walk around the area. In the evening it was then time for more practice in the room until dinner and afterwards some last practice until it was time to sleep…
So my days had not only became focused on Tabla practice, but also quite structured in a way as if I had a regular working routine. I personally quite liked it that way as it started to give me a feeling of belonging and purpose. Also the local guesthouse started to become like second home, making this stay in Kolkata rather feel like Travel Life than actual travelling…
The only element of surprise every day seemed to the Tabla class itself. As we had no set schedule other than showing up in the morning, every single day something else seemed to happen and every single day different people seemed to make an appearance to play or sing something. But I also quite liked it this way as well… : )
