Travel Day 858 – Makati, Manila, PHILIPPINES
It was the big day of my friend’s stag before his wedding in Boracay next week, but obviously this wasn’t just a stag day, it was also a stag night…
My day actually started kind of relaxed and I took it easy in the morning. All I really managed to do was go far a little stroll around the area and then find a decent place for lunch. While I usually love to eat in all the cheap local places, I now have to watch out a bit more carefully what I can choose since I don’t eat meat any more. But in the Philippines pretty much everything seems to contain meat. Even if you tell everyone that you don’t eat meat, they just offer you some chicken then instead…
So I managed to find a decent local place that had some fish out on display and settled for milk-fish rice and vegetables. Even if it wasn’t the perfectly greasy meal I should have eaten before drinking alcohol, it still was a great meal and I was quite happy that I found it. I usually only eat fish every once in a while, but here it seems to be the only kind of food I could find and so it seemed like I was eating it every single day…
Anyway, my friend’s stag was then set to start at 4pm at a place that turned out to be a really fancy hotel tower with rental units in it. While my understanding had been that we would meet at the bar of this place to then hit the road and meander our way through the sleaziest part of the local night life, I finally had to learn that I was far off with my assumption. Clearly I wasn’t any sort of wedding expert and obviously I had no real idea what a stag was actually all about…
Well, it turned out to be all about drinking and actually quite a lot of it. My friend’s friends had actually rented a two-story penthouse suite for the night and organized that unspeakable amounts of alcohol would be present. The fact that we were only a handful of guys in a three-bedroom-house sized apartment didn’t really matter any more at some point and the fact that we never made it outside of this place to find an actual party was compensated by the fact that we had the strippers come to us. Luckily most of the strippers were actually girls and only one of them turned to have one tiny little difference too much…
Even if I really didn’t have to see all that and even if I wasn’t able to join my friend for his actual wedding in Boracay, it was still good fun and nice to have seen him during his last few days of freedom before he would marry his lovely soon-to-be wife… : )
