Panorama of Predjama Castle in Slovenia

Set on a vertical cliff and at the mouth of a deep cave, Predjamski Grad truly is a unique structure, overlooking the valley by the village of Predjama in Slovenia. Originally built as a medieval fortification and for a while housing the robber Erazem Lueger, after its complete destruction it had been rebuilt as a Renaissance castle, which can still be seen today.
Coming from Postojna and driving out of town along the winding roads to find this remotely located castle is already a great experience. But actually seeing this interesting structure early in the morning and learning about the legendary robber baron who survived a one year siege with the help of a secret tunnel was really fascinating and made Predjamski Grad a perfect stopover when visiting Slovenia.
Do you like old castles and legends? Have you ever been to one that was built in front of a cave?

Stunning shot as always Dennis. Still haven’t been to a castle but I choose to live vicariously through you until I do the Europe trip bit. So regal, and so beautiful, this shot is. Thanks for sharing and keep on inspiring!

I LOVED this castle! I had seen pictures of it and read a little about it before I went to Slovenia, but it was truly amazing in person. Plus, there was a storm on the day I went which added to the atmosphere

Wow Lizzie, that truly sounds amazing! Predjamki Grad was already a great sight in sunny weather, but in a storm it must look really mysteriously…
