Panorama of Athens and the Acropolis in Greece

Located on a tall cliff in the middle of modern-day Athens, the ancient citadel of the Acropolis is an impressive sight from anywhere within the city. As the most complete monumental complex of ancient Greece, the Acropolis featured such great architectural gems as the once richly painted Parthenon Temple, dedicated to the city’s patron, the goddess Athena. Visiting the Acropolis when in Athens is definitely mandatory, but enjoying the evening views of it, is also not to be missed.
While the views of this unmissable landmark from Monasteraki, Anafiotika and the Temple of Olympian Zeus are beautiful, they are even more remarkable from the little rock named Areopagus, right by the entrance of the Acropolis. But by far the best evening views can be enjoyed after a stroll past the ancient stone theater Odeon of Herodes Atticus and a climb up Filopappou Hill. From here, it is possible to see not only Piraeus Harbor, but also the mighty Acropolis, glowing in the warm evening light high above the city of Athens.
Have you been to Athens and managed to enjoy these beautiful evening views?
